SHEEPLESS IN SAQUISILI
OUR WEEK WITH SHIRLEY
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
We had been on the lam(b) for weeks.
They're
in every animal market. Sheep for sale. So after some discussion,
Akaisha and I thought about what it would be like to travel through
Ecuador with a sheep. After all, we do like to “get local”. We figured
that we could buy one here in the market, travel for a week, then return
and sell our slightly used Sheep.
NOT BAAAD LOOKIN'
After inquiring, we found that $25 bucks would get us one. At that
price, we could profit if all goes well. But first we needed to work out
some logistics.
How do we get Shirley the Sheep into our room? Or
is there some place to “park” her? Does she get the “kid” rate? We
cannot be the only one with this issue, as many people here have sheep.
Then, what about the bus? Do they have “sheep racks”? We cannot walk
from town to town, but we're on the moooove, so there needs to be
arrangements. Ewe can imagine our dilemma.
PROUD PURCHASE
Then what about the wool? Surely Shirley was going
to have to pay her way, there was no if’s, ands or baaaas about it. The
ideas for profit were swirling in our brains, and this was no wet
blanket of an idea!
Akaisha starts imagining the sweaters and socks she could produce. Billy
keeps reminding Akaisha how great lamb tastes grilled.
