A great hotel find in Cuenca, Ecuador is the newly opened and classically renovated Cofradia del Monje (Casa-Café).   This seven room bed and breakfast is located in the heart Old Town, directly next to Church San Francisco.  Staying here will put you in an ideal location for restaurants, shops and internet.

weekend night.)  The plazoleta San Francisco in front of our hotel made for some fascinating people watching.

One can wake up early and peer through the embroidered sheers and in total anonymity, observe vendors setting up their wares, birds fluttering around, and locals walking to their morning appointments. There is always something going on at the plaza.

The rooms here are spacious, filled with light coming in from the stately French doors.  These solid wood balcony doors can be closed for both privacy and to have quiet from the hustle and bustle of the city.  Outside there is an upper floor walkway with beautifully painted rot iron.

Professionally decorated, with attention to detail, each bedroom has its own color scheme.  There are hand

painted faux finishings on the walls throughout the Casa, highly polished wooden floors, chandeliers, and recessed lighting.   Classic solid wood furniture such as an armoire, writing desk, coffee tables or  dressers are tastefully placed. 

The total atmosphere made for a relaxing stay in full luxury. 

The suites are above the courtyard café, and one can sit in a comfy alcove and sip on a favorite beverage while listening to the gentle jazz rising from the dining room in the evenings.

Original art hangs in the hallways and in niches through out the Casa-Café.  Fresh flowers grace each dining table and are located throughout the whole of this enchanting inn.

Highly recommended this new establishment is not going to be undiscovered long, and the price of $38 for doubles, including breakfast is a rare find.

A friendly and courteous staff serves breakfast, and some of the town's finest almuerzos ($2) daily.  Live weekend music with different artists is offered as well as cable TV, modern baths with hot water, and  24 hour security for your person and vehicle.
