Author Bio
Akaisha Kaderli has a passion for adventure, international foods, and has always
studied the cultures and languages of the world. While in her teens she crossed
the country several times on the back of a motorcycle, and moved to California
from Ohio, when she was 21. In 1979, she traveled Europe for six months with her
partner, Bill Kaderli, studying foods and the service industry.
In 1979, along with Bill, she purchased Luther’s, a 46 seat restaurant located
in Santa Cruz, California. She ran the restaurant for 10 years, monitoring food
presentation and quality, as well as creating all advertising, menu designs,
arranging wine purchases, negotiating contracts for equipment purchases, hiring
and training of personnel, putting together training manuals, doing payroll and
accounts receivable and payable.
Akaisha was active in the local school work programs, teaching young teens how to become skillful in the service industry, and appreciating the benefits of responsibly maintaining a job. She spoke at the local schools on Career Day about employment in the service industry, and why it was rewarding and useful to have these experiences. From 1980-1990 she freelanced for the local newspapers The Santa Cruz Sentinel, and The Good Times, on subjects of local import, and wrote restaurant reviews.
In 1991, Akaisha retired at the age of 38 to travel the world, journaling her experiences to share and motivate other travelers. These stories and photos can be viewed at Billy & Akaisha Retire Early Lifestyle and Travel Website, at RetireEarlyLifestyle.com.
While living in Chapala, Mexico off and on
from 1994 to 2002, she volunteered to teach English as a second language to
young children and teens. Learning Spanish
from the locals, she also helped several businesses by showing them how to make
and sustain a hand made note card business. These businesses are still in
operation today. She gave several seminars and interviews for International
Living, a travel magazine, for retirees who were considering a move to Mexico.
From 1995 to 1997 she was primary care giver and secretary to her mother, doing
End of Life Care for her. She managed and monitored the medicines prescribed,
kept doctor appointments, and checked on insurance payments. She gave interviews
to the media of Santa Cruz and PBS in San Francisco, California. She was
featured, along with her mother, in both Breadth of Life, Metro Santa Cruz, a
collaborative photo essay chronicling her death, and the Perlman Journalism
