Valuable Questions about
Retirement
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
Hi,
So you
have been retired for four decades living off the advice you pass on through
your book.
Do you own a home? Like what do you do when not traveling or if you
want to stay someplace somewhere for a year or two? And we all are getting
older what will you do when travel isn't viable.
At
moment my wife and I can walk away from work, just do not have the housing
figured out yet whether to rent, buy, travel, camper

Hi
David,
Thanks
for taking the time to write.
I can
understand how someone would think we are "living off the advice we give" by
selling books. It's a common misunderstanding.
We were
retired for
15 years before we wrote our first book, and that was in response to
answering the same questions over and over and over again for the first 15 years
of our being financially independent.
We have
always lived off our investments -- as Billy explains in his comments on the
4%
withdrawal. We consider our website to be our volunteer time, and a "passion
project" as the younger ones say these days. We put in countless hours a week...
answering questions from our Readers, like the one you asked us today in your
email. (We are not charging you for this information, you will note.)
Regarding Financial Independence/Retirement and owning a home, there are lots of
options to choose from.
You
could downsize, live in an
Active Adult
Community, or rent/do
house exchange/
house sit and of course there is always
the RV Lifestyle as you mentioned. You
could use the money you made on selling your home for other areas of your
retirement.
Out of
the 4 categories of highest spending in any household, the cash outlay for
housing is the highest. Once this is understood, then making a more suitable
choice for your lodging - according to the retirement lifestyle you might want -
will be easier.

In terms
of Assisted
Living Choices, these are more varied and more affordable overseas.
Of
course, we speak about these topics in more depth in
our books.
Wishing
you and your wife the very best.
