Hotel
de la Soledad
Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
We had been in the UNESCO city of
Morelia
for a few days, when a friend of ours recommended that we go to the Hotel de
la Soledad. This
17th century building made of rose quarry stone is located in the Historical
Downtown of Morelia, one block from the
Cathedral.

The sign for Hotel de la Soledad
Previously a private home, it was
remodeled in 1752 and adapted to receive guests. At that time it was called
Meson de Ulate and was the first official hotel of
Valladolid, one of Morelia's first names.

The garden entrance with fountain
Not knowing what to expect, it was
enchanting to enter the gardens of this aristocratic hotel.
This is the oldest hotel in Morelia. In
1801, new owners changed the name to honor the Virgin of Solitude.
This was a lush and peaceful location for
Happy Hour and we explored available tables to best enjoy the scenery.

Hotel rooms are available on the first
and second floors
Hotel de la Soledad also has a restaurant
along with hotel rooms and suites. We chose the garden area to order our
beverages. As the late afternoon turned to dusk,
the twinkly lights wrapped around
the palm trees began to sparkle.
It truly was bewitching.

Passing a pleasant few hours
We are sharing a Chilean Cabernet and our
friend is having a local Mexican beer, Pacifico.
We sat and enjoyed each other's company
and conversation until after the sun set.
Such a pleasant way to
pass a few hours.
Afterwards, we walked around the
historical section of the city, and enjoyed the
Cathedral all lit up!
Gorgeous.

Our bill
Our bottle of Cabernet was approximately
$20USD. Each bottle of Pacifico beer is about $2USD.
At these prices, you can surely enjoy the
evening here.
If you are ever in Morelia, this is truly
a place to put on your list to visit. It has a completely different ambiance
than any of the
rooftop bars and restauurants - and they are both great venues to enjoy
what the city has to offer!
