El Texano Restaurant Sign
El Texano (El-Tay-HAHN-oh) means "The
Texan."
The Mexican state of
Chihuahua
borders the US state of
Texas,
and the town of El Fuerte, where this restaurant is located, is 131 miles
from the Sea of Cortez.
We were told that we could get some good
seafood in this town.
We visited this unassuming restaurant
frequently during our short stay in
El Fuerte.

Chalkboard menu sign
The menu above lists sirloin, marinated
flank steak (a specialty of Mexico) sausage, sandwiches, hamburgers, and
buffalo wings.
This was not the full menu at El Texano,
but it was enough to pull us in.
Actually, we were searching all over town
for a
cappuccino, but the closest we found was a cappuccino ice cream drink or
a 7-Eleven style of machine coffee. El Texano had a cappuccino that was
fully acceptable.
Outdoor seating in El Texano
There was indoor and outdoor seating at
El Texano, and the whole place was open-air.
In the window you can see the flattened metal
outline of a Texan cowboy, the namesake of the restaurant.
You can also see the El Fuerte Plaza just
beyond these windows.

Our waitress and the bartender, a
husband and wife team
For this tiny restaurant, they had a very
good selection of
tequilas.
The whole top row and a quarter of the bottom shelf was a line of different
brands of
Mexico's finest drink.
They offered
100%
Agave Azul, Centenario, Herradura, Jose Cuervo, Siete Leguas, Jimador,
Patron and more, some in plata, some anjeo and some reposado.
Of course the rest of the bottom shelf
had the standards of Tanqueray Gin, Kalua, Cointreau, Black Label Whiskey,
and bottles of red and white wine.
Here you see the bartender and his wife
who are the owners. He had that air about him that said "This is my
place" and he knew his products well. The woman gave us great service
and was really pleasant.

Black Bass with garlic, rice and fresh
vegetables
We are not that far from the Sea of
Cortez and this fish was fresh! Simply delicious, and the vegetables cooked
in real butter rocked. The rice was flakey too.
Again, for such a simple place, the meal
was very nicely done. Billy said it was the very best Black Bass he has ever
had - flavorful and juicy inside.
We would certainly recommend this
restaurant for a meal or two when you are in El Fuerte, Mexico!
