Beach Cake
Lady
Chacala, Nayarit, Mexico
Billy and Akaisha Kaderli
One of the things we enjoy about visiting
the beach,
is that "life comes to you."
Vendors
walk the beach selling everything from beach cover ups, jewelry, fresh
oysters, seafood cocktails to... fresh baked desserts!
Oh just what we need!

cake
Up and down the beach they go, selling
their products. All one has to do is wave them down and over to your table
they will come.
We find it refreshing that these are home
made. There is no list of preservatives, caloric content, nor warnings of
what kinds of poisons might be included in something so delicious.
Yup. It's open-air selling.
If a speck of dust gets on their product,
well... that's natural.

DEEE-licious!
Rosa came up to our table (I know, I
know, we are on a first name basis with this pastry lady... what does
that say?) and showed us her freshly baked flan and chocolate flan cake.
If you have never tasted these desserts
newly made, you are definitely missing out.
The flan is smooth as silk with a caramel
syrup below it, and the chocolate cake flan... moist and more than tempting.
Yes!
We needed this dessert like a hole in the
head, so we bought one.

THE best ever!
To our credit, we shared the chocolate
cake flan instead of purchasing one of each.
As you can see, there is caramel sauce
drizzled over the whole piece with a touch of the lighter syrup below.
Chocolate cake was moist and chocolate-y, nuts were crunchy, flan was
smooooth...
We were hooked.
Fortunately for us, Rosa disappeared for
the next few days, even though we looked for her diligently on the beach.
We asked other vendors about her, but
while they knew Rosa, they didn't know why she wasn't selling that day.
Eventually, her 11 year old son came by,
selling Rosa's cakes and we were able to have another piece before we left
the lovely beach of
Chacala.
Price of the cake? About $1.50USD.
